Chandigarh, December 11, 2024
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has announced its first list of 784 candidates for the Urban Local Bodies elections slated for December 21. These elections will cover 87 locations, including municipal corporations, committees, and 49 by-elections across 977 wards.
Addressing the media, Punjab AAP President Aman Arora, joined by other key leaders, expressed confidence in the party’s strong candidate lineup and highlighted its transparent selection process.
AAP’s Grassroots Approach to Candidate Selection
Aman Arora revealed that AAP received over 5,000 applications for 977 wards within just a few days, with some wards attracting as many as 20 aspirants per seat. “This overwhelming response reflects the public’s trust in AAP’s governance and policies,” he said.
To ensure fairness, the party adopted a grassroots and transparent screening process. Zonal and district-level committees, comprising MLAs, leaders, and volunteers, evaluated candidates. Feedback was gathered from district in-charges, Lok Sabha in-charges, and local leaders to promote inclusivity and consensus.
Development Under CM Bhagwant Mann Earns Public Confidence
Highlighting the Punjab Government’s achievements under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Arora emphasized the party’s strong track record in urban and rural development. “AAP’s developmental initiatives and transparent governance have consistently won public support, as seen in our success in panchayat and by-elections,” he said.
Key Highlights of the First Candidate List
The first list includes candidates for major cities such as Ludhiana (94 wards), Patiala (56 wards), and Amritsar (74 wards). Discussions to finalize candidates for the remaining wards are underway and are expected to be completed by the evening.
AAP Confident of Victory
With a history of winning 80-85% of panchayat and by-elections, AAP is optimistic about securing a resounding victory in the Urban Local Bodies elections. Arora attributed this confidence to the party’s dedicated organizational team and the strong support of the public.
“This is more than an election—it’s a movement to deliver transparent and development-oriented governance,” Arora stated. He thanked party workers and volunteers for their tireless efforts in preparing for the polls and reaffirmed AAP’s commitment to empowering urban areas and ensuring inclusive progress.
As the elections draw closer, AAP’s transparent process and public trust position it as a formidable force, determined to lead Punjab’s urban transformation.
