Assassination Attempt on Sukhbir Singh Badal Outside Golden Temple Foiled
Amritsar witnessed a shocking incident on Wednesday when Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped an assassination attempt outside the Golden Temple. The attack occurred while Badal was performing tankhah (penance duty) as a sewadar.
The alleged attacker, identified as Narain Singh Chaura, a known Khalistani sympathizer and former militant, reportedly fired a shot at Badal. Fortunately, the bullet missed and hit a wall, leaving the SAD chief unharmed. Quick action by a sewadar nearby prevented further harm, as Chaura's hand was deflected during the attempt. Onlookers then subdued Chaura until security personnel arrived.

Chaura is a controversial figure, infamous for his involvement in the 2004 Burail Jailbreak, during which Babbar Khalsa International terrorists escaped custody. Known for his militant activities, Chaura had been seen loitering near the Golden Temple premises a day prior to the incident, reportedly scouting the area.
