Congress changing its stance as per media reports, made Sardar Charnjit Singh Channi as first dalit Chief minister of Punjab to counter Akali-BSP alliance and BJP's call to give a dalit CM face if comes to power. But is it the only quality our worthy CM possess? Although his performance will be weighed on the targets he achieves in this short tenure and its implications on next Assembly elections. But till date if we study him as a politician, he remains in good books of central leadership, Captain Amrinder Singh and PPCC chief Navjot Sidhu. During his selection Navjot recommended him above Sukhjinder Randhawa and Sunil jakhar. Also may be Sidhu felt no threats from him in future. So, Channi knows to maintain his political image to keep high command interested in him. Secondly, he has valuable experience as three times MLA from Chamkaur Sahib, leader of opposition and cabinet minister in Technical education and training in Amrinder's ministry. Thirdly, he is a well qualified man with BA, LLA, MBA and now pursuing PhD from Panjab University Chandigarh on topic related to Indian National Congress. His family is also learned with wife and brother doctors. In his new innings as CM, he started connecting with people from day one, stopping at Gyani tea stall at Amritsar and dancing to bhangra tunes at a state level employment function. His statement regarding permanent jobs to class four employees futher associate him to masses. This shows his skills that he is a deserving CM and not a reserved one as media speculates. But from now onwards the real test begins, can he take strong measures like on Electricity, Bargari and other state issues alongwith populist steps for upliftment of party and state so as to stay in hot seat.
