Chennai: A devastating train accident occurred near Chennai on Friday, October 11, 2024, when the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Superfast Express collided with a stationary goods train at Kavarappettai railway station in Tiruvallur district. Six coaches of the passenger train derailed, and three caught fire, but fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Rescue and Relief Efforts
Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured passengers at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, Chennai, and assured full-scale rescue operations under the orders of Chief Minister MK Stalin. The government is working to provide food and travel facilities for passengers to return home.
Investigation
The Indian Railways has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will investigate whether the collision was caused by a genuine signal malfunction or a deliberate act, considering the passenger train's speed of 80 km/h when it entered the loop line.
