NEW DELHI: Droupadi Murmu sworn in as India's 15th President at ceremony in the Central
Hall of Parliament. She belongs to Santhal community and is first tribal leader sworn in as the President of India.
CJI NV Ramana administered the oath of office to Murmu in the presence of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers, governors, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other dignitaries.
Chief Ministers Jairam Thakur, Yogi Adityanath, N Biren Singh, Naveen Patnaik, Eknath Shinde were present.
Murmu took the oath of office in Hindi.She was given a 21-gun salute after which she signed the oath register.
She got support from of opposition parties such as the YSR Congress, BSP, TDPBJD, Shiv Sena,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
She started her political career as as BJP councillor from Rairangpur in 1997 and rose as minister in Odisha's BJD-BJP coalition government from 2000 to 2004.
She remained governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.
"I am surprised as delighted. As a tribal woman from remote Mayurbhanj district, I had not becoming the candidate for the
top post," Murmu had said after her victory as presidential candidate.
